A new book of Russian folk tales with illustrations by Elena Polenova

On the 15th of November, the publishing house Fontanka released our new book “Why the bear has no tail”. This is a book on Russian folk tales that had been collected and illustrated by Elena Polenova back in the 19th century. The book is published in English, in the original translation by Netta Peacock, writer and friend of Elena Polenova.

Thanks to the research of Louise Hardiman, the original illustrations had been recently rediscovered in the Oxfordshire home of Netta Peacock’s descendants. So now, 100 years later, the book was finally published!

Please, find the details of this remarkable story in the press release.
